Trocano Araretama Conservation Project – Borba, Amazonas State, Brazil

Welcome to the Project

Trocano Araretama is a forest conservation, biodiversity protection and community development plan created in June 2011 by Celestial Green Ventures in partnership with the Municipality of Borba, and in collaboration with the Amazônia Livre Institute. The project aims to Reduce Emissions from Deforestation and forest Degradation, promote sustainable management of forests and enhancement of forest carbon stocks (REDD+), in the Brazilian Amazon Region.

Forest Conservation

Combining the use of remote sensing and satellite images along with knowledge of the local population, the project quickly maps evidences of deforestation and identifies threatened regions. Advanced communication and monitoring technology will be used in order to successfully mitigate deforestation.

Biodiversity Protection

The project focuses on the measurement and protection of the local fauna and flora. A Normative Biodiversity Metric score accounts for the quality of the inherent biodiversity within the project areas. This can then be evaluated at regular intervals to determine any changes in the region’s biodiversity score.

Socio-economic Benefits

Borba communities will have direct benefits for their contribution to the protection of the local natural forest and biodiversity. The project is specially designed to bring enhancements, such as improved healthcare services, infrastructure and education systems and provide employment opportunities.
